number should not be used with such words as innumerable and numerous, which themselves contain the idea of number (Latin numerus ). Say “A countless number,” not “an innumerable number.”

Number, Quantity.Number  should be used in speaking of objects that are counted, quantity  with those that are measured.Muchlittle, and less, answer to quantity, and manyfew, and fewer, to numbers; more  answers to both.
