Specific Heat of Electricity

The heat absorbed or given out by a fluid in passing from one temperature to another depends on its specific heat. In the Peltier and the Thomson effects. q. v., the electric current acts as the producer of a change of temperature, either an increase or decrease as the case may be. This suggests an absorption of and giving out of heat which amount of heat corresponding to a current of known amount is determinable, and may be referred to any unit of quantity such as the coulomb. This or some equivalent definite quantity of heat it has been proposed (Sir William Thomson) to term the Specific Heat of Electricity.
